Biography
Szilvia Schranz was born in Budapest, Hungary, into a lineage of musicians deeply rooted in the Hungarian National Opera House and the Hungarian Festival Orchestra. At age 10, her family relocated to Boulder, Colorado, where she grew up surrounded by the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains.
Her formal vocal training began at the University of Colorado and continued abroad with a post-graduate diploma from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where she had the privilege of studying under the legendary voice teacher Vera Rózsa. Szilvia later earned her master’s degree in vocal performance from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, further refining her artistry on the world stage.
Ms. Schranz has appeared with the GRAMMY-winning Takács Quartet and performed at the Denver Center for Performing Arts with their Tony-award winning theater company. Her multiple concerts with the London Chamber Soloists, included solo performances at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and St. Martin-in-the-Fields. She has sung with New York Philharmonic Chorus under Lorin Maazel and at the Royal Albert Hall in London under the late Sir Colin Davis.
Gábor Takács-Nagy invited Ms. Schranz to sing with the MÁV Symphony Orchestra under his baton, which was broadcast over Hungarian Bartók Radio. She can also be heard on Arsis Audio’s recording of Su Lian Tan’s River of the Trunk with Margo Garrett.
The late Pulitzer-nominated war photographer Chris Hondros worked with Ms. Schranz to develop My Heart, A Well of Tears, a multi-media project that featured the music of Bach set to the backdrop of images from conflict zones around the world.
Currently, Ms. Schranz appears regularly with the Boulder Chamber Orchestra and has also made appearances with the Boulder Philharmonic as well as the Mahler Festival Orchestras. She continues to perform while expanding her piano and voice studio for kids and young adults.
